This large piece was made to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. The flag and its fringe are made from metal. The first verse of the Battle Hymn of the Republic is painted on the four sides of the frame because it is an abolitionist hymn. It reads: "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored. He has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword. His truth is marching on." The lettering on the flag itself reads: "LIBERTY WITHOUT RIGHTEOUSNESS IS SLAVERY The Emancipation Proclamation, January 1, 1863"
