ALLEGORY OF EARLY AMERICA
75" long X 27" highThis is a ship's stern board that was inspired by a carving at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont. The original dated to the 1830s and was an expression of freedom. The tamed lion represented England (where only nobility could hunt deer) and the native American woman represented liberty.
